Helpful Tips
Grab a Lake District Day Ranger ticket at any staffed station. It unlocks unlimited Stagecoach bus travel across the region. Simple, cheap, flexible.
Download the Stagecoach Bus app. Track live departure times for routes 555 (Keswick, Windermere) and 599 (Bowness, Grasmere). No guesswork.
Park at Brockhole visitor centre. Hop on the cross-lake Windermere Lake Cruises shuttle. Reach Bowness or Ambleside without town-centre parking fees. Easy.
Flash your National Rail ticket at Windermere station. Receive a £2 discount on the 599 open-top bus to Grasmere and Keswick. Instant savings.
Common Scams to Avoid
Unlicensed minicabs at the drop-off zone quote a flat "Lake District rate" that is double the metered fare. Insist on using the official taxi rank or pre-book a licensed firm through the airport kiosk.
Baggage trolleys that appear free near the exit have a local operator demanding a £2-£3 cash fee once you wheel them outside. Use only trolleys taken from inside the terminal and look for the official return point.
A "porter" in a high-vis vest offers to carry bags to the car park shuttle and then asks for an inflated tip. Politely decline unless the service is clearly part of the airport's assisted-travel scheme.
